All I blame is the Hunger Games trilogy for making me stay up late doing my homework. A couple of days ago, I sat on my bed just to chill and read for about half an hour. But when I checked the time 30 minutes later(at least that was what I thought), 2 hours just slipped away! I was panicking because I had tons of homework to work on, but on the other hand I felt so pleased – I had the best two hours of the day, feeling thrill, excitement, fear, pain, satisfaction and sadness just by snuggling down my warm blanket. What efficient enjoyment reading is!

The first book, The Hunger Games, was flabbergastingly fun, I just had to read the next two books. I was so immersed in the book, I screamed, I laughed and I almost cried while reading! I read the books everywhere; on the bus, in the airport, in school, the list goes on and on. People gave me suspicious looks whenever I was reacting to the story without even noticing that I was too loud. I secretly wanted Katniss to end up with Gale but I just have to think the author made the best choice at the end. She needed Peeta’s warmth and tenderness more than Gale’s fierceness and embedded anger.
While reading the books, I realised that 3 of the major names in the story were from the names of flowers. Katniss, Primrose, Rue. So interesting that the flowers reflect their characteristics. Katniss is an edible plant, and I know that it grows effortlessly, it doesn’t require much care. I think this reflects her independent personality and her instinct to survive. I also thought the fact that it is edible can mean her focus is on practical survival rather than beautiful appearances. Primrose, as anyone can assume, suggests of gentle and sweet personality. Not only this, it seems to be a cure-all flower for medical usage, just like Prim as a Healer! Rue, I had to search it up because I only knew its name, not its qualities. Apparently, it is associated with purity, regret and freedom. This perfectly makes sense since the innocence of a young child is presented so lucidly, it made me want to cry when she died. Also, the word rue just means regret. This might be showing how Katniss felt about her, not being able to save her. Regretfulness. Dear me, this is making me sombre again…
Anyways, these were just my opinions about this wonderful trilogy by Suzanne Collins. I have no doubt that I am going to revisit these books soon!
